One of the major factors hindering the learning
of Mathematics is the failure to learn or retain the prerequisite knowledge needed to learn a new concept or learning objective. Unless there is some means of addressing the reacquisition of this knowledge, a student
is bound to experience anxiety and frustration over repeated unsuccessful attempts to learn Mathematics. I have identified a computer assisted assessment and learning program that accurately and precisely, on
an ongoing basis, identifies what a student knows, what a student does not know, and what a student is ready to learn. This program is called ALEKS (Assessment and Learning in Knowledge Spaces). You may
investigate this program for yourself at http://www.aleks.com . This program allows me to quickly identify where to begin with a given student
and keeps me current with the progress being made.
